Riffle and Durando Medal in SkillsUSA Competition
Congratulations to LHS Students Cole Riffle and Miriam Durando who medaled in the SkillsUSA Competitions at the state conference that was held at Linn State Technical College on March 31st-April 2nd, 2016. Riffle placed 1st in Robotics and will advance to national level competitions held in Louisville, Kentucky during the week of June 20 -June 25, 2016. Durando placed 2nd in Opening and Closing Cermonies, and 3rd in Residential Wiring Tech. Twenty five of forty competing students from the Excelsior Springs Area Career Center (ESACC) medaled in the competition. Click on the title for more info.
Youth Art Month Video
Schools across the nation celebrate Youth Art in the month of March. To help bring awareness of the importance of Art, The LHS Art Classes have created the following video. Thanks to Pam Haahr, our Art Teacher and Senior Madalyn Macomber for editing the video.
Washington D.C. Trip
From March 14-17, 32 Lathrop students and 2 chaperones took a trip to Washington D.C. Mr. Lewis and Mr. Yaple went with the students to all the major monuments: Lincoln, Jefferson, Martin Luther King Jr., and FDR. They also went to Fort McHenry, the place where Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the Star Spangled Banner. The group also toured the following memorials: US Air Force, Iwo Jima, World War II, Arlington National Cemetery, Vietnam War, and Korean War. Other stops included Mount Vernon, (George Washington's home), Ford's Theater (where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated), the White House, the Capitol Building, the Supreme Court, and 3 of the 19 Smithsonian museums, including both air and space. The people of Lathrop should be proud of the kids who went and how well they represented our school and community, they were great and respectful at every stop!
District Vocal Music Large Group Results
Congratulations to the LHS Mixed Choir who received a 1 rating this morning at large group state music contest! The LHS women's choir also did very well and received a 2 rating. Congratulations to all the choir students!
KCI Academic Team All-Conference
At the KCI Academic Team Coaches meeting last night, Emily Vanhorn was a unanimous First-Team All KCI Conference selection! Sterling Evans, Tristan Frazier, and Jacob Vanderpool were all voted All Conference Honorable Mention. The team was disappointed by their 3rd place finish in the tournament, but said they would use that as motivation to do better in the State Tournament!
Instrumental Contest Results from 4/1 Congratulations to: Alex May, Jacob Vanderpool, and Sterling Evans for receiving 1 ratings on their solos! The clarinet quartet made up of Dana Henry, Kelly Oliphant, Jacob Vanderpool, and Zach Painter also earned a 1 rating! These students will be going to state music contest the end of April.
The following students got 2 ratings on their solos: Audra Gustin, Kelly Oliphant, Melanie Towne, Abby Ferril, Jessie Holliway, and Abby Howard. The following groups also earned 2 ratings: Sax Trio (Alex May, Magen Warner, Alden Willdermood) Sax Quartet (Alex May, Sterling Evans, Alden Willdermood, Jacob Vanderpool) and both woodwind quintets (Maddy Macomber, Dana Henry, Dakota Wehmeyer, Megan Warner, Kelly Oliphant, Katie Skinner, Abby Ferril, Sterling Evans, and Ellie Albertson). Congratulations to all of these students!!

LHS Girl's Basketball Coach Steve Vonderfecht has been awarded the 2016 Coach of the Year by both KKWK and the Northwest Missouri Sportswriters! Way to go Coach V!

The Mixed Sextet of Abby Gaskins, Ciara Jones, Zach Painter, Kannon Williams, Sydney Doyle and Katie Haase and the Girls 8 of Ciara Jones, Taylor Jennings, Allie McEntee, Abby Gaskins, Katie Haase, Natalie McDowell, Sydney Doyle and Shealee Zesch also received 1 ratings. These students will be going to state music contest the end of April.

LR2 Students Sweep Congressional Art Contest..Again
Congratulations to Mandy Rader, Bree Saur, and Abi Painter for taking the top three art awards in this year's Congressional Art Contest! Out of 8 schools and 45 students entered, our LHS Art students took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place two years in a row! The girls received a personal phone call from our Congressman, Sam Graves today to congratulate them! Congratulations to them and their teacher Mrs. Haahr!

Drug Free Superstars
Congratulations to Dawson Beane, Sterling Evans, Maressa Fine, Audra Gustin, James Knifong, and Bree Saur who were chosen by the staff as this year's Drug Free Super S.T.A.R.s! From that group, two were chosen by a committee to be given a scholarship for being a Drug Free Super STAR. Congratulations to Dawson Beane and Maressa Fine for being chosen as this year's scholarship winners! All of the Drug Free Super STARs will present to the middle school and elementary school students during Red Ribbon Week. Special thanks to the Hamilton Bank and the Lathrop Rotary Club for donating the funds for the scholarships!

The Lady Mules are the 2015 Class 2 State Champions!
The 2015 Lady Mules Softball Team beat Portageville 1-0 on Friday to advance to the Championship game and on Saturday defeated Fatima 10-3 for the Class 2 State Title! The fan support in Springfield was amazing! Our fan base outnumbered our opponents in both games! That makes three Titles for Lathrop 1985 Boy's Basketball, 2009 Cheerleading and 2015 Softball! We will have two recognition ceremonies for the girls. First there will be a student assembly at the high school at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 28th. Then there will be a community pep really at 7:00 pm on Thursday the 29th in the high school gym.

In the past two years we've had ACT scores over 30, Academic All-State Softball Players, All-State Football Players, State Wrestling Champions, State FFA Degree winners, Poetry Out Loud state contest qualifiers, National Forensics Tournament Qualifiers, State Solo and Ensemble qualifiers, a Superior Band Rating, an Excellent Vocal Music Rating, State FFA Degree winners, Trap Shooting Champions and the list goes on.
